After representing clients in court for more than twenty years and witnessing the resulting emotional and financial wreckage, I encourage my clients to use alternative methods for resolving their divorce related conflict. My commitment to helping clients peacefully transition through divorce has evolved over time, influenced by my personal and professional experiences.

A Texas native, I grew up in a remote part of West Texas, where my father was the County Sheriff, and my mother was a homemaker (stay-at-home mom, in the current lingo). Although I did not attend a one room schoolhouse, I did attend a one building schoolhouse, with first through twelfth grades under the same roof. I went to school with basically the same eighteen students from first grade through graduation.

Most of my adult life has been lived in North Carolina where I attended Sacred Heart College, graduated from Belmont Abbey College, and obtained my law degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law. I have enjoyed living in Asheville, Charlotte and now in the Triangle.

I am a board member of Triangle Collaborative Divorce Professionals.  TCDP is a  network of attorneys, financial planners and mental health professionals specially trained to help clients peacefully transition through divorce.  Our group sponsors the DivorcingRight webinars on the fourth Saturday of each month, January through October, and I am a regular presenter at the webinars.

In addition to helping clients navigate the divorce process, I volunteer at  Catholic Charities Immigration Services doing what I can to help immigrant families stay together.

When I am not working, I am usually spending time with a menagerie of pets. Over the past twenty-plus years, I have provided forever homes for dozens of rescued dogs and cats, one rescued parakeet, and various farm animals saved from slaughter. In warm weather months, you might run into me at a Bluegrass festival or a Durham Bulls game.
